Dr. Korinne “Kori” Babel is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator for Counselor Education at the University of North Alabama, where she teaches in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs. She also serves as the program’s CACREP Liaison. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Auburn University, her M.A. in School Counseling from Argosy University–Sarasota, and her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Florida.
Dr. Babel is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor in Georgia, an Approved Clinical Supervisor, a National Certified Counselor, and a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™. She is also a certified DC:0–5 trainer through ZERO TO THREE and has served as an affiliate of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. Before entering the counseling profession, she worked as an elementary educator in a Title I school.
Her teaching, research, and professional interests include play therapy, infant and early childhood mental health, caregiver support, counselor development, and clinical supervision. Her research has explored aggressive toys in play therapy, counselor self-efficacy, school-based play therapy, and Animal Assisted Play Therapy®. She is active in professional leadership and service, including serving as the 2026 Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision Conference Coordinator and as a past president of the Alabama Association for Play Therapy. She has presented at state, regional, national, and international levels.
